Good Guys wear White Hats!
Apr. 18, 2012Hey everyone, my name is Tyler Scales and I’m a professional bareback rider. I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to call Trent a friend and represent as part of the Greeley Hat Works team.
Trent and I share a similar thought that A HAT REFLECTS YOUR PERSONALITY. As a bareback rider, I think this is really true. The quality, shape and type all reflect the type of guy you are and I definitely feel like my hat gives me an edge. Whenever I am wearing a sharp hat, I know that I can go out there and totally dominate. That’s because your hat and your attitude are both the same.
Last fall I was getting ready for circuit finals and just felt like it was time to change something up so I could really do well. My better half, who was on the Greeley Hat Work team as a former Miss Rodeo Colorado, encouraged me to go see Trent and give him free rein on making a cool circuit finals hat. Right away Trent had an awesome idea, and although I wasn’t so sure, I went with it. I picked up my hat the day before we went up to Rock Springs and discovered Trent had built me none other than a WHITE hat with a black-bound edge. Of course my has-been rodeo queen girlfriend said to let Trent do whatever he wanted. I’m going to be honest, I hadn’t ever seen a bareback rider with a white hat and I was definitely a little worried.
We drove the few hours up to Rock Springs with that white hat freaking me out in the back seat. I got to thinking about it and decided that I wasn’t exactly your typical bareback rider either, so I put it on and headed to the secretary’s office. The more I wore it, the more I realized just how much of a rock star I felt in it. Sure enough, when I went into the locker room all the guys thought it was awesome. I was ready to spur one, and had a great circuit finals up until my last horse (I got a concussion the night before and just didn’t get along great with my draw). The way I felt and how bad I was craving really going hard this year, that white hat was going to go everywhere with me.
I’ve hit the road pretty hard this year and have been down in Texas on and off since the end of January. Every time I nod my head, I’m riding better than the last time I did. I feel great and it seems like most times I get off my horse the announcer is saying, “See that kid ride? GOOD GUYS WEAR WHITE HATS, FOLKS!” This just confirms my suspicion that my white Greeley Hat Works hat has become me and I’ve become it. Everyone I see at the rodeos knows who is nodding their white hat when I call for the gate, and you better believe people are going to know it when I ride for 90. Here’s to a great season and to good guys who make and wear awesome Greeley Hat Works hats!
